Dear UA-UNM Members,

We are excited to invite our members to apply for an Organizing Fellowship for the Fall semester of 2026! Our Organizing Fellows will play a critical role in building our strength and power as a union through membership engagement and outreach. UA-UNM is offering at least five (5) Organizing Fellowships for the Fall semester. Fellows may be awarded a Fellowship for an average of 4 hours of work per week with a stipend of at least $2640 for the semester or a Fellowship for an average of 8 hours of work per week with a stipend of at least $5280. All stipends will be paid monthly. Branch campus and adjunct (Unit 2) employees are especially encouraged to apply. The contract duration will be July 20 through December 18, 2026. Duties and Responsibilities

Fellows will do approximately 4 or 8 hours of work average per week in membership outreach and engagement. Duties will include, but are not limited to the following list (Each hired fellow will have an area of focus in one particular area):

  • Communicating with members through one-on-one conversations, walkthroughs and phonebanking
  • Attending and participating in weekly Organizing Committee meetings
  • Organizing, attending, and staffing membership events, such as Happy Hours and Coffee Socials
  • Organizing and attending membership meetings such as General Membership Meetings and Orientation Sessions
  • Learning about Union structures and procedures
  • Identifying and recruiting organic leaders and Stewards
  • Creating training and informational materials for members and member leaders
  • Using Action Builder (our member database) to record data
  • Managing other types of member data
  • Liaising and community building as committee members for both internal and external Union committees
  • Mobilizing members for Union actions
  • Working with the Steward’s Council and Executive Council to articulate and realize Union escalation plans

Qualifications

Fellows must be:

  • A dues-paying member of UA-UNM
  • Employed by any branch of the University of New Mexico
  • Able to work collaboratively with others
  • Effective with oral and written communication

Preferences

  • Previous union/community organizing experience
  • Familiar with UA-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Familiar with workers rights and union rights

Application Process

To be considered for an Organizing Fellowship, please submit (1) a letter of intent and (2) a list of your qualifications to info@uaunm.org. In your letter of intent, please specify if you are interested in a 4 or 8 hour/week Fellowship, and indicate if there is a particular area of the listed duties that you are most qualified for or most interested in. All applications received by June 19 will be fully considered. After June 19, unfilled positions will remain open until filled. Contracts beginning after July 20 will receive a prorated stipend.
