Summer is here! Starting today, your UA-UNM Communications Committee will be mostly on break and will only send special announcements such as this one with timely updates. Weekly emails will resume right before the start of the Fall semester.

UNM Faculty Demand Affordable Healthcare

This past year with bargaining, UA-UNM was able to secure a 4% raise for Unit 1 employees and 5% for Unit 2. As many UNM employees may know, healthcare benefits costs are going up by 13.1% as of July 1, 2026. This means that our hard won raise will now be swallowed by this increase in our insurance premiums. As employees of UNM, we deserve affordable health insurance. We need a tangible improvement in our access to both primary and specialist healthcare in this state. The cost of our insurance is increasing, and the quality of our healthcare is only getting worse.

UA-UNM leaders created a petition that demands the UNM Administration adopt the same universal 80/20 split the New Mexico State Legislature approved for K-12 teachers starting July 1, 2026. By signing your name to this petition you are demanding that the UNM Administration take responsibility for their employees healthcare and general well-being. We urge you to sign here to show our strength in numbers.

Union Quote of the Week

“Although it is true that only about 20 percent of American workers are in unions, that 20 percent sets the standards across the board in salaries, benefits and working conditions. If you are making a decent salary in a non-union company, you owe that to the unions. One thing that corporations do not do is give out money out of the goodness of their hearts.”
