Read on for updates on what’s been happening in our union and in the broader movement for worker and community power.
Solidarity School This Labor Day
This Labor Day, Monday, September 7th, join union members and neighbors from across New Mexico for Solidarity School in downtown ABQ (12:00–6:00 PM) to learn how communities have successfully organized against authoritarianism and build practical skills to defend our communities — food, drinks, and community provided. Hosted by Organized Power in Numbers.

UA-UNM knows the key to our collective power is through faculty participation. Here are ways you can become involved:
Join as a dues-paying member
- Stand with your colleagues in the fight for dignified pay, better benefits, and fair working conditions by joining your union.
Serve as a steward
- Now is the perfect time to become a steward. Stewards meet biweekly and are the main decision-making body of our union. They represent up to 20 faculty and are the first point person for rank and file members.
- The first Stewards’ Council meeting of Fall 2026 is Tuesday August 25, 3:30-5pm. Email organizing@uaunm.org for the Zoom link and password.
- Save the date for UA-UNM Steward Training! Our fall 2026 training session is Saturday, October 3rd 12:30-4pm.
Attend a committee meeting
- The Organizing and Membership Committee (OC) grows union membership and develops new leaders and stewards through organizing training and events. The OC meets weekly on Thursdays from 3:30-5pm. Email organizing@uaunm.org for the Zoom link and password.
- The Communications Committee (Comms) shapes the union’s public voice through collaboration, communication, and consensus. Comms meets weekly on Thursdays from 9-10am. Email info@uaunm.org for the Zoom link and password.
