Dear UA-UNM Colleagues,

Welcome back and happy fall semester! We know the beginning of the school year is often stressful as we prepare for our classes, labs, service work, and research – but your union has your back!

Currently, UA-UNM is renegotiating our Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for our permanent and temporary faculty, and we intend to win our strongest agreements thus far through collective power. As you know, UA-UNM represents faculty on all five UNM campuses, including tenure and tenure-track faculty, research faculty, lecturers, adjuncts, and term teachers. Becoming a part of UA-UNM ensures your voice is heard in your union and is vital for a strong faculty community and worker power.

In the last few years, UA-UNM improved working conditions for faculty across all of UNM’s campuses!

Wins for Unit 1 (permanent faculty)

  • A 23.2% raise for all permanent faculty and a 49% raise in minimums since 2021.
  • Office of Academic Personnel required to keep the public updated on their efforts to increase faculty salaries and publish a report by college of all salaries adjusted for merit, equity and retention.
  • Full semester of paid parental leave for BOTH parents.
  • 4/4 workload established at Taos & Gallup campuses.
  • Promotion & tenure process contractually enforceable.

Wins for Unit 2 (temporary faculty)

  • A 36.25% raise for all temporary faculty and 56.25% raise in minimums since 2021. 10% above minimum pay required for Term Teachers.
  • Class cancellation policy established for temporary members and one week of paid work added to the beginning of each semester on all temporary faculty contracts.
  • Year-long Term-Teacher contracts established for eligible adjuncts.
  • Term-Teachers given lower eligibility threshold for benefits.

We intend to continue fighting for the improvement of our working conditions, but we need you and your colleagues to join us in this fight!

Hundreds of faculty on campus know that we are weak when we stand alone, but are strongest when we unite as one. Join your union today by clicking on the following link: https://connect.aft.org/app/memberforms/06662/join

We also invite you to join us this Labor Day (September 1) at Civic Plaza, 9-11am, where we will be rallying with other unions, worker organizations, and community groups to make it clear that it is workers and not billionaires that make Albuquerque run!

In solidarity,
UA-UNM
