Dear UA-UNM Colleagues,
This is the week! Our Spring General Membership Meeting is this Thursday, March 5 from 5–7 pm. Parking is easy at our AFT New Mexico Union Hall – 530 Jefferson St NE, 87108, and we will have free childcare and dinner! There’s also the option to join by Zoom – link available when you RSVP here. Happy hour will follow at High & Dry from 7–8 pm (just around the corner from our union hall)!
At the meeting, you can expect to be informed about all of these critical things:
- Treasurer Report – Stephanie Telles, our Treasurer, will share our union’s financial strategy, current budget, and what your union dues are paying for!
- Bargaining Update – Satya Witt, Lead Negotiator, will update us on what we can expect in the endgame. We are at a critical juncture in securing the contract we need and deserve.
- UA-UNM Constitution Update with Q&A – Keri Stevenson, Gallup VP, will give an overview of important changes our Executive Council is proposing.
- President’s Report – Ernesto Longa, our current president, will update members on collaboration with other higher education unions to increase higher ed funding from the state legislature.
- Academic Freedom Presentation – We’ll hear from UA-UNM member Justin Bendell about the Academic Freedom working group’s efforts to strengthen protections for faculty, students, and staff.
As always, make sure you’re a dues-paying member of UA-UNM, which you can do here! This is especially important now, so you can participate in the General Membership Meeting and upcoming elections for Union leadership for the next 2 years! You’ll also have the opportunity to vote on proposed Constitutional Amendments.
