Dear UA-UNM Colleagues,
Your union has had another busy week advocating for faculty and improving communication with our members. We are pleased to unveil our new website, which will now house our weekly updates in addition to other important information and events.
As you know, UA-UNM and the UNM Administration are at an impasse in contract negotiations. Your UA-UNM Bargaining Team has worked hard to present meaningful proposals to UNM Administration in our ongoing efforts to strengthen Academic Freedom, ensure shared governance around workload policies and how they are determined, and enshrine paths to promotion for Unit 2 faculty. The Administration has consistently failed to present productive counter offers on these critical issues, which is why we officially reached an impasse.
The good news is that both negotiating teams have agreed to mediation, which is in the process of being scheduled. To keep members informed and to make sure we are ready to mobilize to support our Bargaining Team in mediation, we are having an Impasse Info Session on Friday, November 21, 4–5 pm in CTLB 110. This is your chance to hear a comprehensive update on specific sticking points in negotiations and how the mediation process will work and to strategize with your colleagues about union priorities and how we can work together to win the strongest contract possible. The Impasse Info Session will be followed by a Happy Hour at Flock of Moons from 5:30–7:30 pm.
