Dear UA-UNM Colleagues,
This week is our Bargaining Impasse Town Hall! Please join us this Friday, November 21, 4–5 pm in CTLB 110 and bring your colleagues! Your UA-UNM Bargaining Team will share an update on specific sticking points in negotiations – particularly protecting our academic freedom, ensuring shared governance around workload determinations, and creating pathways to more permanent positions for Unit 2. We will talk about how the mediation process will work, strategize about union priorities and how we can win the strongest contract possible, and engage in planning and enacting some shared actions. The town hall will be followed by a Happy Hour at Flock of Moons from 5:30–7:30 pm. RSVP here
We were so grateful to see so many UA-UNM members during our union social at UNM-Gallup last Wednesday! Branch campus members make this union strong, which is why we continue to organize across all campuses. Are you at a branch campus and want to work towards this goal? Consider becoming a steward! Email organizing@uaunm.org for more information on how to become a steward and how to join our next Stewards Council on Tuesday, November 25, from 1:00–2:00 pm on Zoom.
Next month, the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico is hosting Every Conversation Counts, an Organizing Academy class that will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 1:00–4:00 pm at the AFT NM office (530 Jefferson St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108). Strong unions are built one conversation at a time. This class will equip participants with practical strategies for effective one-on-one outreach, worksite mapping, and member engagement. RSVP by filling out this form here. Lunch will be provided and mileage reimbursement is available for those outside of Albuquerque. Registration for this event will close on Friday, November 28th.
As always, remember to encourage your colleagues to join UA-UNM here and keep reading for a list of upcoming UA-UNM events.
We will not be sending out a weekly email next week. We hope you all enjoy the holiday break!
In Solidarity,
United Academics of UNM

Union Quote of the Week
By academic freedom I understand the right to search for truth and to publish and teach what one holds to be true. This right implies also a duty one must not conceal any part of what one has recognized to be true. It is evident that any restriction on academic freedom acts in such a way as to hamper the dissemination of knowledge among the people and thereby impede national judgment and action. – Albert Einstein, AFT Member
