Dear UA-UNM Colleagues,
Thanks to everyone who attended the Bargaining Impasse Town Hall on November 21! With over 25 members in attendance, we made action plans for our Contract Impasse Mediation with the Administration, which is scheduled for Monday, December 15 at 9:00 am in Dane Smith Hall 126–128. We will be meeting at 8:00 am outside classrooms 126–128 in Dane Smith Hall to show our support for a fair contract. RSVP here and wear your union t-shirts, buttons, etc.! This is a critical moment because mediation will determine protections of our academic freedom, shared governance around workload determinations, and pathways to more permanent positions for Unit 2.
Take a break from grading to join your colleagues for sign-making and snacks! We will meet on Friday, December 12 from 12:00–2:00 pm in the Art Foundation Studio, Building 84, Room 252 to make signs to show our union strength at the mediation.
Also, reminder that the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico is hosting Every Conversation Counts, an Organizing Academy class that will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 1:00–4:00 pm at the AFT NM office (530 Jefferson St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108). Strong unions are built one conversation at a time. This class will equip participants with practical strategies for effective one-on-one outreach, worksite mapping, and member engagement. RSVP by filling out this form here. Lunch will be provided, and mileage reimbursement and a one-night hotel stay is available for those outside of Albuquerque. Registration is closing any day, so please RSVP right away if you want to attend.
